“Traveling by train, I watched the people around me, and through the window witnessed the beauty of the landscape. No one paid any mind to the old train dispatcher who would wave his lantern in front of the half-ruined village railway station, approving the train’s continued journey. That encouraged me to show their stories, the stories of these anonymous people who are in the shadows, yet are the lifeblood of the train. At railway depots I met switchmen, dispatchers, brakes, cleaners… most who work in poor condition. The monumental photos capture the army of a small people who run the railway”. – Branko Pelinović
Branko Pelinović patiently, quietly and non-intrusively captured these monumental photos, often relying on long exposure to get his shots and in doing so exposed life on the railway on the Blue Train from Belgrade (ZTP Belgrade) to Bar.
